In other articles I have written over the years I have mentioned the Jewish evangelist Joseph Wolf or Wolff of the London Jews Society who married Lady Georgiana Walpole a daughter of Lord Orford. The story about the reason Lady Georgiana's brother Lord Orford allowed the marriage is amusing and colourful however is it the whole truth? In fact Joseph Wolf may have been known by the crypto-Jews and Frankists as The Wolf Lord and this was why he was selected for training with the Jesuits and sent to Rome.

These Wolf Lords and their spouses known as Lady Wolf goes back to the son of Shabtai Zevi called Adam (b.1652) who went to live in Scotland using the names Wolfson and Wilson. He was revered in crypto-Jewish circles and known as the Wolf Lord and Son of the Wolf. He was also known as Adam Baal Shem as the leader of the Nistarim. He had at least three sons Chaim, Noach and Yacov who became Charles Wolf (b.1670), Adam Wilson (b.1679) and James Wilson (b.1682). Charles worked closely with his brother Adam Wilson in promoting their teachings among secret circles. While Charles was known as Wolf Lord, his brother Adam was known as Son of the Wolf. Their sister Sarah Wolf (b.1672) married Gershon Reizel (aka George Rose) of a crypto-Jewish family from Devon who settled in Limerick in Ireland and she was known as Lady Rose among the crypto-Jews. George's brother Henry Rose was the Mayor of Limerick around 1695. A second sister Esther Wolf or Wilson (b.1680) was an ancestor of Lady Georgiana Mary Walpole through her daughter Maria Skerrett (b.1702 London). Another third sister Elizabeth Wolf (b.1686) was the maternal grandmother of Ellen Morres (b.1703) who became Lady Ormonde the wife of Walter Butler the de jure 16th Earl of Ormonde. While their title of Earl of Ormonde was not officially confirmed till later the family and their followers referred to them as Lord and Lady Ormonde.

Adam Wolfson the 2nd Wolf Lord married Elizabeth Ferdinando who was known as Lady Wolf among the crypto-Jews. The 3rd Wolf Lord was Charles Wolf (aka Rabbi Chaim Wolf) who married Dinah Zolkiewska (b.1680) a granddaughter of Rabbi Isaac I of Zolkiev and a sister of Rabbi Isaac II of Zolkiev. Dinah became known as Lady Wolf among the crypto-Jews and Sabbateans. Dinah's son Rabbi David Wolf (b.1702) was the 4th Wolf Lord and his wife Malka Zolkiewska (b.1713) was the daughter of Rabbi Isaac of Zolkiev and also became known as Lady Wolf.  Dinah's daughter  Susan Wolf (aka Shoshana Zevi) was the grandmother of Agnes Southwell who became Lady Wandesford and her daughter Frances Susan Elizabeth who was known as Ann became Lady Ormonde the wife of John Butler the 17th Earl of Ormonde. 

Malka's son was Rabbi Benjamin Wolf who was the 5th Wolf Lord and his wife Ruth Dinah Franconia (the eldest daughter of Jacob Frank and his first wife Chaya Falkon). She became the 5th Lady Wolf. They were to become secret Frankists. Her son Rabbi David Wolf (b.1755) was the 6th Wolf Lord and he married his cousin Sarah Lipchowitz who was then known as Lady Wolf. Their son was Joseph Wolf the 7th Wolf Lord who married Lady Georgiana Walpole. The Orford family also had crypto-Jewish and Jacobite connections. One of these connections may have been though their exotic French crypto-Jewish ancestor Rachel de Massue who became Lady Southampton. On Lady Georgiana's direct maternal line she was descended from Esther Skerrett (nee Wolf or Wilson) as mentioned above. Thus her son Sir Henry Drummond Wolff (1830-1908) was the 8th Wolf Lord and his wife Adeline Douglas was the 8th Lady Wolf in the crypto-Jewish succession but also Lady Wolf in the English peerage. At this time the Frankist and cyrpto-Jewish origins were being deliberately in some cases forgotten and new ancestral stories created in many of these families including the Drummond-Wolff family.
